Design Plus Gallery presents a 7′11″ x 10′2″ Soumak Red Flatweave Area Rug. Natural dyes are applied in a variation with the wool fibers. Background is a warm coral to burgundy gradient. Vibrant colors combined with subtle abrash (variation in depth of color) makes for a look that pleases the contemporary eye while honoring tradition. Border and botanical motifs are anchored with a sage green and pops of color. Minor wear.

About Rug:
Construction of Soumaks are different from that of the handknotted rug in its unique reversible quality. The yarns on the “wrong” side of the the older Soumaks were left hanging so you could only use the rug with the “right” side up. They are a “flat weave,” pileless rug that is thicker than the kilims and much sturdier because of the tightness of the weave, density, and the amount of wool used in the rug.
