Design Plus Galley presents an Original Artwork, The Chess Players by Karl Truppe (1887–1959). From 1905 to 1913 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he attended courses of Professor Alois Delug and Professor Christian Griepenkerl. He was awarded the ‘Naturkopfpreis’, the ‘Medal of the city of Klagenfurt’ and in 1914 the Prix de Rome. The Chess Players is similar in vein to one of his most influential artworks, that created infamy to his name in the 30s. This work shows the artist himself around a table of men contemplating moves, that likely has a symbolism to this attachment to powerful men in the Third Reich. The artwork is not held in frame with glass and is slightly lifting away from the mounting. Would do well with a cleaning and new frame. Visible wear from usage + age.
