Isamu Noguchi Akari Japanese Paper Globe Floor Lamp. Original Price: $2,200

Design Plus Gallery presents the Akari Floor Lamp from Isamu Noguchi. Part of the celebrated Akari Light Sculptures collection, this Japanese Mid-Century Modern design showcases a spherical washi paper shade supported by an elongated bamboo stem and a rounded black cast iron base. The ivory paper shade displays horizontal ribbing and an organic, textured surface that allows light to diffuse through its delicate composition. Noguchi’s Akari collection, first introduced in 1951, reflects his artistic vision of transforming traditional Japanese lantern-making techniques into sculptural lighting. The combination of natural materials, geometric forms, and minimalist aesthetics exemplifies Noguchi’s influential approach to modern design. It is in good vintage condition with visible and minimal wear from usage. Please note that the lamp is missing the finial that secures the paper shade at the top of the fixture.
