Design Plus Gallery presents the Sciangai Coat Rack by Zanotta. Sciangai was inspired, obviously, by the Mikado game where wooden sticks are held in the hand and then dropped onto a table. The incredibly simple opening/closing mechanism is realized with a steel grommet supporting black varnished ash poles. The piece won the Compasso d’Oro Award in 1979, and has been a recognizable icon ever since. Light surface wear; condition is consistent with age and use.
