Vatican Loggia Bay Elevation Etchings by Giovanni Ottaviani, a Pair

Design Plus Gallery presents a Pair of Prints by Giovanni Ottaviani. Each of the etchings shows an elevation of a quarter of the vault of third bay of the Loggia in the Vatican. Designed by Raphael and executed by his workshop (c1517-1519). The Building of the Ark is lettered at the bottom with Bible quote in Latin. The publication was the first to reproduce the ornamental decoration of the pilasters and vaults of the Lodge in comprehensive detail. Professionally framed in slim gilt finished wood, protected by glass. Light surface wear; condition is consistent with age and use.
