Historically the beds of this style—sometimes also referred to as “Chinese wedding beds” or “Luohan beds”—served as important fixtures in both domestic and social settings. Although they were associated with opium use during the Qing Dynasty, these beds held broader significance as they were cherished for luxurious spaces to relax, show hospitality, and often as matrimonial beds symbolizing unity and comfort. The frame has natural distress, a testament to its age and authenticity. With its exquisite woodwork and storied past, this bed transcends function to bring in artistry with history. As this piece is modular the sections will need to be reinforced when set-up. Overall the bed is in good condition with visible and minimal wear that is consistent with its usage.
