Turkmen Ensi Handknotted Wool Area Rug, Pakistan – 6′2″ × 9′4″

Design Plus Gallery presents an Ensi rug, made in Pakistan. Silky navy, red and white wool is hand knotted in a small intricate pattern. In Turkmen culture “Ensi” rugs served as a door entrance covering for the yurt, and was marked by its directional design. A special occasion rug, for betrothal or special guest, not for everyday use. After Soviet and English contact, the designs for the bazaar became larger in size. Little evidence of wear; overall good condition.
