Design Plus Gallery presents “Frisky Lap Dogs” a Vintage Triptych by Toyahara Chikanobu. These Japanese woodblock prints (Ukiyo-e) are part of a series that was created around the Meiji period. They depict the inner palace of Edo Castle. The images show a woman of the house and her maid enjoy the antics of a pair of house pets. The artist, a culture recorder of his time that was quickly becoming modernized, was known for his depictions of fashion and lifestyle. Professionally matted, framed and protected under glass. Little wear; condition is good.
