Sukhothai Buddha Head
SOLD!
Design Plus Gallery presents An antique Sukhothai Style Mounted Buddha Head from Thailand.
The Buddha is formed of a thick bronze cast with good weight. The head is sensitively rendered with a softly contoured face and serene contemplative expression, with arched eyebrows bowed high towards the forehead, set above heavy-lidded eyes, a narrow well-shaped nose, bow-shaped lips with a serene smile, and prominent elongated ears. The head is covered in thorn-like hair curls, surmounted by a flamed ‘Ushnisha’, in the Sukhothai tradition. The Buddha is mounted on a metal and wood base (later). Wear is consistent with its likely antique age.
