Design Plus Gallery presents the 19th-Century Savage Land Painted Tole Canister. The octagonal metal vessel displays a deep green ground decorated with gilt foliate scrollwork, maritime landscapes, sailing vessels, and portrait medallions. Its timeworn painted surface and varied pictorial panels reflect the decorative character associated with antique European toleware. A cascading faux white orchid arrangement, broad green leaves, moss, a miniature bird’s nest, and speckled eggs complete the decorative composition. The original lid is missing. It is in good condition; natural patina and visible wear from age and usage.
