The image depicts a lady casually sat at a table reading her book, a dog awaits by her side and a smartly dressed fellow in the nearby drawing room, wonderful details and composition, you can really understand the era just by gazing around the room, I especially love the sunlight coming through the windows. The frame is spectacular in and of itself and is also an antique. The piece is in good condition, visible and minimal wear.
About the Artist :
Pieter Janssens Elinga (1623 -1682) was a Dutch Golden Age painter, mainly of domestic interior scenes with a strong emphasis on the rectangular geometrical elements of windows, floor tiling paintings, and other elements, and a few genre figures. He also painted still lifes.
