Norman Cherner Bentwood Counter Stools, Set of Three. Original Price: $3,100

Design Plus Gallery presents a Set of Three Counter Stools by Cherner Chair Company, designed by Norman Cherner in 1958 and produced for Plycraft. The chair appeared in Norman Rockwell’s 1961 painting “The Artist at Work” as well as on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post. Unfortunately, Plycraft informed Cherner that the design had been scrapped while continuing to produce it as their own design. Cherner sued over the use of his designs, which settled with an agreement to pay royalties. By the early 1970s the Plycraft line of chairs went out of production, allowing the formation of Cherner Chair Company through Norman’s sons. They revived the design and constructed the design of laminated plywood of graduating thicknesses, as intended by their father. All three are in good condition, visible minor wear from usage + age. Brand label is under the seat. Made in USA.
