Design Plus Gallery presents a “Columbia Plateau Pony” Pastel on Bark Paper by Monica Stobie. Created in 1993, the composition depicts a running pony surrounded by abstract markings and symbolic forms influenced by rock art, petroglyphs, and petrographs. Stobie uses pastel on textured bark paper, allowing the fibrous surface and segmented pattern of the material to become an integral part of the composition. Earth-toned pigments are contrasted by turquoise accents, while the pony is rendered in black, cream, and muted neutral tones. The artwork is signed and dated “M. Stobie 93” along the lower right and retains its identifying label on the reverse. It is presented under glass with a brown mat and slender black frame. It is in good condition with visible and minimal wear from usage.
