“In China. the moon is symbolic of the essence of the female. It is believe Ch’ang O fled tot he moon after stealing the elixir of immortality from her husband. There she shares residence with a hare who nibbles at the elixir while lulling under a cassia tree. Here, the moon is surrounded by cassia petals on all sides by spiritual embroidered vestments, with mortal, earthly offerings from natures bounty, laid in a vessel from a mixing artist’s hand as entrance fee to immortal light of the moon.”
