Mere Pounamu Traditional Māori Green Stone Hand Club

Design Plus Gallery presents a Mere Pounamu a Traditional Māori Hand Club. A short, broad-bladed green stone weapon shaped like an enlarged teardrop, narrowing to a handle and ending in a butt or heel marked with grooves. Features a hole at the butt end for a wrist cord if needed. Primarily used for close-quarter fighting, the mere was employed for thrusting or jabbing strikes to vulnerable areas like the ribs, neck, or temple. As the weapon of a chief (rangatira), the mere pounamu was the most revered of all Māori weapons, symbolizing chieftainship and status. These treasured heirlooms were often named and believed to possess spiritual qualities. In good condition, minimal wear.
