Design Plus Gallery presents a Vintage Japanese Kaidan-Dansu Step Chest. This two-piece step chest is made from solid woods with an amber-brown tone and visible natural grain. The form is traditionally known as kaidan-dansu and originated during the Edo period, when stair chests combined storage compartments with a tiered architectural structure. This piece has multiple drawers, lower sliding cabinet doors, an upper mesh-front cabinet door, and decorative metal hardware with aged patina. The upper section is removable for transport. The wood shows age-related markings, scuffs, small scratches, and tonal variation throughout. This item is in good condition with visible and minimal wear from usage.
