Design Plus Gallery presents an Antique Engraving “The Standard of St. George, borne by a Baron in his Coronation Dress and Robes of Estate, attended by His Page.” The composition depicts Lord Hill and Lord William Pitt Lennox in ceremonial dress associated with the coronation of King George IV on July 19, 1821. The engraving is marked “H. Meyer Sculpt.” and was published in London in October 1823 under the direction of Sir George Nayler Garter. Fine linework and hand-applied color define the elaborate robes, heraldic standard, and period costume. The work is presented beneath glass with a deep blue mat and an ornate giltwood frame with molded detailing. It is in good condition with visible and minimal wear from usage.
