Design Plus Gallery presents an Early 20th Century Tansu. Beautifully crafted in Japan and originally designed to hold a range of valuable objects, often chess sets with elaborate hinges and iron strapping as well as locks. This example consists of three long drawers and a variety of 9 smaller drawers. Top of unit uses sliding panel doors for a larger open storage space while the base houses a lockbox which is non operational and without key. The entire chest is a metal braced, consisting of two wooden boxes. Back splits, wear to facade consistent with age. Some of the drawers don’t fully close due to locking mechanism.
