Design Plus Gallery presents “This Side of the Blue”, Functional Art Coffee Table by Wendell Castle. Known as the Father of Furniture, Wendell Castle uses love of sculpture balancing as livable pieces for the home is used with his own technique of stained ash that is stacked + lacquered to represent bold shapes that mimic the human form. This one of a kind artwork we are proud to display is signed AP + dated, 2014 with AP2 next to the base.
Born in Kansas in 1932, Wendell Castle received a B.F.A. from the University of Kansas in Industrial Design in 1958 and an M.F.A. in sculpture, graduating in 1961. He moved to Rochester, New York to teach at the School of American Craftsmen and established a permanent studio in the area, which is where he still works today. Wendell Castle’s work can be found in the permanent collections of more than 40 museums and cultural institutions worldwide. In good condition with minimal wear for its usage.
