Design Plus Gallery presents a “The Waiting” Sculpture from Artist Betty Defuntorum. A figurative, expressive sculpture portraying five seated travelers on a bench, their bodies angled inward and outward in quiet anticipation. Luggage clustered beside several figures and their reserved postures suggest a station setting—perhaps a train or bus depot—where time is measured in departures and delays. The work is marked “DIFUNTORUM” on the reverse. Modeled with an emphasis on gesture over fine facial detail, the figures wear vintage coats, hats, and dresses that evoke a mid-20th-century era (circa 1930s–1950s). The bench and base carry a carved wood grain that grounds the scene in a specific place. Balancing individuality and anonymity, Difuntorum composes a shared moment of stillness: five lives briefly aligned on a single bench. The sculpture quietly explores themes of travel, migration, patience, and the fragile community formed by strangers who wait together. In good condition, visible and minimal wear, repairs were done. Crafted in California, USA.
