Design Plus Gallery presents an Antique Japanese Tansu, a traditional Japanese chest of drawers influenced by the Meiji period (1868-1912). The specific period was a time of social change and economic upheaval in Japan when craft trades were free to build without regard to social position or government edict. Crafted of light weight Elm and built for mobility and durability, the two drawer chest still performs as intended, and beautifully. Iron fittings, handles and locks are intact. Signed on rear panel. Condition is good for antique age and use.
