Design Plus Gallery presents a Late 18th Century Byobu “Spring Pond” Japanese Two Panel Screen. Hand painted landscape emerges with ink from the “Tsunami” (gold leaf) background with a lively stream setting in the foreground. Pheasants, songbirds, “hoo” (phoenix) “mats” (pine) “botanical” peonies and “take” bamboo) are flanked by a waterfall. Perimeter is adhered with a brocade and each panel is encased with black metal and decorative brass medallions + brackets. Back in lined with a decorative + graphic print as well. Made from the Meji Period. Visible wear due to age.
