Design Plus Gallery presents a 6ft x 9ft 1in Area Rug from the. Orient. The onset of western influence on carpet weaving is best seen in this Sultanabad carpet. Rooted in history, the western designers reinvented the old Persian designs and adapted them to suit tastes of the western markets. The use of softer color tones, larger bolder designs and a more supple weave is evidence in this rug. The shift in design aesthetics was minimal and many of the Sultanabad rugs have patterns similar to the Herati rugs. Additionally, that patterns that you see are the “Mina Khani”, “Harshang” and “Mustafavi” – or more commonly known as the Garden of Paradise. With lighter gold tone at the base and elaborate bolder designs, this Sultanabads has retained its rank on the top echelons of the carpet world. There is a soft label of provenience on the backside of the rug. Overall the rug is in good condition with minimal wear.
