19th Century European Antique Savonarola Chair

Design Plus Gallery presents a European Antique Savonarola Chair. The savonarola style chair has a generous U-shaped saddle seat with arched arms. Sturdily constructed with solid oak and stained a dark umber tone. An ornately carved face depicting the North Wind adorns the crown of the chair. Legs elegantly curve with a trestle base bearing a small shield motif. Tops of chair are adorned with lions keeping guard. “Savonarola” chairs are named after the revolutionary monk of Renaissance Florence, who protested against the profligacy of the wealthy city. There is visible wear through out, chair is in good condition.
