19th Century Circa 1839 Carved Calligraphy Panels, Set of Three. Original Price: $1,305

Design Plus Gallery presents a Set of Three Carved Calligraphy Panels from Martino’s Import Collection. Red wood frames surround black fields of gold-tone Chinese calligraphy, accented by relief carvings of flowers, birds, and robed figures. Geometric openwork decorates the lower edges, and metal hanging rings top each panel. The attached retailer labels describe the panels as “Award of Merit from Emperor Tao Kuang,” circa 1839. The painted surfaces display visible wear, including chips, abrasions, and areas of exposed wood. They are in good condition with wear consistent with age and usage.
