Design Plus Gallery presents an Antique Chinese Lacquer Sewing Box. An exciting export item, particularly to Europe, and is made form black lacquered Chinese swamp cypress. Made of black and gold lacquer, adorned with sconces of figures, landscapes, flowers, and motifs. The box is of octagonal rounded corners sitting on top of dragon feet. Once the lid is risen you will find yourself impressed with the inside compartments with increasingly more elaborate details than its exterior. Hand carved ivory tools and handles upon various inner doors will bring you back to an era where items of these were cherished. The boxes were made in Guangzhou, previously romanized as Canton or Kwangchow, is the capital and largest city of Guangdong province in southern China. Visible wear is present and consistent with its use and we believe to be intact. Exterior key to keep the impressive ivory items in tact is functional.
