Chuck Huckeba is a contemporary painter who is known for his abstract artwork inspired by prehistoric rock art. He has a fine arts degree and graduate study from the University of California at Santa Barbara, where he studied under notable contemporary artists such as Larry Rivers and Irma Cavat. Huckeba’s influences include artists like Paul Klee, Jean Dubuffet, Adolf Gotlieb, Cy Twombly, Wassily Kandinski, and Joan Miro. Huckeba and his wife, Jill, have spent years exploring and documenting prehistoric pictographs and petroglyphs found in the Western United States Great Basin. In 1993, he began combining various painting techniques to interpret and present the rock art designs he had observed in a contemporary way. His paintings incorporate elements of the rock art into a contemporary presentation. Huckeba’s work can be found in corporate collections at The University of Northern Arizona, The University of California at Santa Barbara Art Museum, The CEU Prehistoric Museum, and The Museum of the San Rafael. His artwork is also displayed in several fine art galleries in Arizona. Private collectors, including actress Lily Tomlin and archaeologist and writer David S. Whitley, Ph.D., own his paintings. This artwork is in good condition with minimal wear.
