Design Plus Gallery presents a Pair of 1950’s Solid Copper Ship’s British Maritime Anchor Lantern by Meteorite of England. These solid copper ship’s anchor lanterns are a stunning example of nautical history. Dating back to the 1950’s, these oil burning lanterns were commonly used on ships to provide light and guide sailors through the dark waters. Crafted with attention to detail, these lanterns feature a vented top, hoisting and bale handles, as well as protective bars to ensure longevity and durability. The copper and brass materials give these lanterns a vintage and authentic look, while the clear glass fresnel lens provides a bright and focused light. Each lantern proudly displays an Anchor and Meteorite cartouche bearing its unique serial number. This not only adds a touch of elegance, but also adds to the historical significance of these pieces. Manufactured by W. T. George & Co. Ltd under the tradename Meteorite, these lanterns were a high quality product of their time. W.T. George & Co. Ltd was founded in Birmingham around 1880 and operated until the early 1970’s. It is believed that the company was then taken over by William Harvie & Co Ltd, who also used the trademark Meteorite.Despite their age, these lanterns are in very good condition with their charming original patina. Visible and minor wear from usage + age.
