Design Plus Gallery presents a Late 18th Century Byobu “Spring Pond” Japanese Two Panel Screen. Hand painted mountain scape emerges with ink from the “Tsunami” (gold leaf) background with a lively pond setting in the foreground. Pheasants, songbirds, “take” (bamboo) “ume” (plum) and “botan” (peonies) are flanked by a trio of Mandarin ducks upon a gentle river. Perimeter is adhered with a brocade and each panel is encased with black metal and decorative brass medallions + brackets. Back in lined with a decorative + graphic print as well. Made from the Meji Period. Visible wear due to age.
