“JoAnn Ugolini graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago and lives and works in Berkeley, California, and Rome, Italy. She is represented in Berkeley by Barbara Anderson Gallery where she has had many solo exhibits. Her work has also been exhibited in San Francisco and Rome. Her paintings and collages are a lifelong meditation on the relationship between gesture and meaning, simultaneously affirming and undoing. Focus is on both the breakup and building of layers, interrupted and interspersed, reflecting the contradictions and ambiguities of everyday life.”
