Design Plus Gallery presents an Original Pen & Ink Drawing by Vincent Perez. Oh the titles we could impose: Talking Heads, So Much Hot Air, Blowing in the Wind, but alas there is not one. Signed and dated 1972. Matted and Framed, protected by glass. Good condition.
” Vincent Perez was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on July 17, 1938. His grandparents emigrated from Spain to the U.S. after the First World War. His mother, nearly blind since age two, raised him in Albany, New York. He remembers his kindergarten paintings, painted with pots of tempera paint, and in high school was mentored by his art teacher Mr. Wertman, who encouraged him to continue on to Pratt Institute in New York where he got his BFA.
Perez supported himself doing construction throughout college, and he attended night classes at the Corcoran Art School in Washington D.C. while working as an ironworker by day. Vincent was then drafted into the army, and was stationed at Fort Meade in Maryland. During his service he worked as an army illustrator, and met his wife, Bette.
Vincent then began his master’s degree in Mexico City at the University of the Americas, and finished his degree at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California in 1964. Upon graduation Vincent began teaching at Arts and Crafts, and he still teaches anatomy and illustration at the college to this day. He has exhibited extensively throughout California and the U.S. and has illustrated numerous books and portfolios.
