Design Plus Gallery presents a Burmese Bronze Karen Rain Drum. Intricate decoration on the top and around the body of the drum with four double piggy-backed frogs on the Tympanum and elephants in relief on one side. These drums are also referred to as frog drums and have been used for hundreds of years in various tribal rituals in south East Asia, especially so among the Karen people of Thailand and Burma for a number of different ceremonial rituals. Used in some Asian cultures to summon rain. The drum has handles on each side for hanging. The top and sides are decorated with concentric circles with the top being centered by a star motif in the middle. Suitable for a side table or nightstand.
