Design Plus Gallery presents a Max Le Verrier ‘Le Singe Au Parapluie’ Monkey + Umbrella Table Lamp. It was in front of the cages of the Jardin des Plantes that Max Le Verrier created his monkey with an umbrella, a three-year-old chimpanzee who answered to the pretty name of BOUBOU. A great friendship was born between the monkey and the artist. BOUBOU, held by the goalkeeper outside the cage, agreed to strike a pose in exchange for bananas. Every morning, he looked at the side of the entrance to wait for the one who was going to immortalize him in bronze. This sculpture received a medal at the Salon des Humoristes in 1927.

Materials: Green patinated metal. Black marble base. Frosted glass shade.

Max LeVerrier (1891-1973).
“Famous French sculptor based in Paris specialising in art deco figurines and statues. His female figures, such as Clarte, became famous for their flexible athletic bodies in perfect symmetry.”

*Note: This lamp has the wiring for European outlets to maintain its authenticity. A plug converter is recommended.
