Design Plus Gallery presents a Mamluk Warrior Tapestry Screen. This is an unusual piece, which may have been a draught or direct sun screen, possibly a fire screen. It is framed in carved mahogany, with a petit point tapestry piece protected behind glass. It is backed with a slightly damaged fabric, probably silk. The intricate needlework portrait is of a Mamluk warrior, a people who ruled Egypt for a time. The petit point images is after a lithograph by a French artist named Carle Vernet (1758-1835).
