Antique Mahogany Cylinder Desk
Design Plus Gallery presents an Antique Cylinder Desk. The difficulty of crafting a wooden cylinder that would not warp over the years, as shown here, ensured that such desks were reserved for the wealthy. The rolltop, the form with slats instead of a one-piece cylinder section, became popular. Lighter wood and figurative inlays trim the drawers and doors in front of the user’s main work surface that slides out a few inches to expand the available work area. Three locking drawers, with dovetail joinery, provide ample storage. Back of desk is not finished. Antique condition, shows stains and breaks on lacquer veneers in places; plus not original or full set.
