Design Plus Gallery presents an Antique Korean Wedding Box. Korean wedding boxes, features wooden boards uthat are generally thin and lightweight, with pine or paulownia being the most popular. Finished with red lacquer and hanpinted with Happiness and Longevity characters. The fittings on this box are made from yellow brass, the lock is fashioned in a flower motif. Light surface wear; condition is consistent with antique age and use.
“According to tradition, the groom and his friends would carry the wedding box a few days before the wedding ceremony. This box, containing “yemul” or gifts, was presented by the groom’s family to the bride’s family as part of the exchange for allowing the groom to marry their daughter.
